For the low-voltage (12V) lighting itself, usually not — that’s part of why low voltage is the standard for landscape systems. Where a permit can come in is the 120V side: the dedicated circuit the transformer plugs into, or any line-voltage security flood lighting. We handle that to code as a licensed master electrician, including the inspection if one’s required, so the whole system is done right.
That’s almost always voltage drop — the fixtures farthest from the transformer aren’t getting enough voltage, usually because the runs weren’t laid out right or the transformer is undersized. It’s the single most common flaw in kit and landscaper installs. We design the runs and size the transformer so the light stays even from the first fixture to the last.
Often, yes. We’ll come out and assess what you’ve got — dark fixtures, corroded connectors, a failing transformer, a timer that’s lost its schedule — and tell you honestly what’s worth keeping and what’s better replaced. Sometimes it’s a repair and a few additions; sometimes the bones are too cheap to build on and we’ll tell you that straight rather than throw money at it.
